Why is FreePower the future of wireless power?

Today’s wireless chargers deliver an inconsistent experience that demands too much conscious input from the user. They typically feature a single charging coil, located in the center of the charger, that leaves an entire surface as room for error. If the user’s device is not precisely aligned with the coil, it will not receive power, leading to a frustrating experience that has significantly limited the technology’s adoption.

All existing devices on the market – from tabletop chargers to in-car wireless power – are constructed based on this legacy design using off-the-shelf components. These constraints have prevented them from creating a solution that is genuinely effective and convenient.

It’s no coincidence that no matter how many product iterations have been released over the years, wireless charging has evolved at a slow pace over the last decade. But it’s not wireless charging that’s flawed – it’s the widely adopted implementation. And FreePower is finally changing the game.

One of FreePower’s key innovations is its multi-coil array, which does away with the error-prone single-coil architecture behind most modern chargers. Our innovative approach supplies power to entire surfaces: devices can be placed anywhere on the charging area and receive continuous power, and users can also charge multiple items at a time.

FreePower is also equipped with proprietary hardware and software – engineered in-house from the ground up – which can rapidly detect devices, determine where their wireless power “receiving spot” is, and introduce very precise power through dynamic magnetic field positioning (or flux positioning).

Designed to be modular and flexible, FreePower can be used to create surfaces of nearly any size for almost any application. Our vision is to take convenience to the next level by integrating FreePower into surfaces everywhere, both at home and throughout the infrastructure that makes up our daily lives.

Coffee tables, desks, nightstands, bar tops, restaurant tables, airport lounges… even car consoles. We envision a world in which each one of these high-use touch points is equipped with convenient wireless charging, allowing people to move throughout their everyday lives without ever having to worry about their devices running low on power.

About FreePower

In 2017, FreePower (FKA Aira) took the first steps towards reinventing a technology that had always fallen short of expectations: wireless charging. Today, we have more than 230 patent assets for our advanced system, all of which were engineered in-house. After years of perfecting the technology, we launched the second-generation FreePower with Tesla in 2023, followed by our latest innovation: FreePower for Countertop. From bar tops at a restaurant to kitchen islands and home offices, this embedded technology seamlessly integrates into surfaces of all kinds. We are now partnering with leading architects, designers, builders, and fabricators to bring power to the spaces that connect us.
